Our Story
Explore Maori Samurai is run by Henare and his son Jazz — two generations of fly fishing guides who have spent their lives walking the wild rivers and lakes around Queenstown. What began as quiet weekends together on the water has become a small, deeply personal guiding business built on patience, tradition, and respect for the fish.
We keep our parties small on purpose. No crowds, no convoys, no shortcuts. Just you, one of us, and a wild trout somewhere upstream — in water we have known for decades.
Whether it's your first cast or your hundredth season, our promise is the same: we'll put you on real fish, in real wilderness, with the kind of local knowledge that can only be handed down.
Trips
Every trip is private and tailored to your experience. Gear, flies and 4WD transfers from Queenstown are included as standard.

Our signature trip. Deep into a remote valley, stalking large wild browns and rainbows in gin-clear backcountry water.
Walk-in or heli-access into the truly wild South Island headwaters. Comfortable lodging, untouched water, two generations of knowledge.

Five iconic rivers
A handful of carefully chosen rivers and lakes within reach of Queenstown — each fished and read across two generations.
